Frequently Asked Questions

How do I care for my new product?

  • Audrey

The tough polyurethane finish will protect against scratches, heat and water.

Care:
As it has a matt finish, care should be taken not to clean the surface with scourers too often, as this will change the lustre over time. For cleaning use a damp sponge or cloth, with detergent if necessary.

All wood is sensitive to light. If the table will be exposed to the sun, I’d suggest that you avoid leaving anything on it for the first 6 weeks to help you avoid any ‘shadows’ appearing as the wood may lighten in such conditions.

Each shelf comes in a pre-oiled finish. This finish is applied by hand and enhances the open grained appearance of the wood giving it a slightly darker finish than varnish, for a more ‘rustic’ look. Oiled wood will retain a matt appearance.

Care:
I would recommend that you oil the surface on a six month to yearly basis, depending on usage, to prolong the surface durability. Take care not to over-oil the wood. Any oil suitable for furniture will do, but as all woods fade in sunlight, the oil I use and recommend is Liberon Superior Danish Oil, as it has a UV inhibitor.

Please note that pieces of furniture made entirely out of solid wood should not be exposed directly to excessive heat or moisture. For instance, do not put the shelves immediately above radiators.

Cleaning:
Do not use any wax or silicone spray polishes. In order to clean the wood, simply wipe down with a soft, barely damp cloth to remove any dust. In the case of stubborn marks, like dried red wine, a solution of mild detergent should be used on the cloth. Avoid the use of scourers or bleaches. In the event of severe spillages and stains the surface can be re-sanded and re-oiled. However it is recommended that you consult me or a professional furniture restorer before doing so.

  • Yew

The rings are soaked in linseed oil for 48 hours to make them more supple.

Care:
From then on, slippery beeswax is best every 6 months. Avoid putting high pressure on the ring when worn (don't grip the bike handlebars too tight when you wear the ring..) as it might break - wood is more brittle than 22 carat gold! Avoid over contact with water, take off your wooden jewelry when in the shower or doing the dishes.
